This series came to life in a wine bar in Edinburgh on a gloomy evening in February. Its idea came about as I was reflecting on the friendships that I formed while being in Edinburgh, and specifically, with a group of my Lithuanian friends who made up the majority of my social circle in the past few years. In 2025, many of them were planning to leave the city and relocate to other countries and even continents. So spring of 2025 was tinted with a sad sense of an approaching end of an episode of life, during which I have grown and developed like never before.
This series was my attempt to capture the precious and fun moments in this friendship group, as well as to build further connections among each of us through music.
I put all of us into pairs, and asked people to select a song that they would like the other person to hear (that could be for different reasons - either that song reminded them of the person, or they just wanted the person to hear the song). I stayed intentionally vague with my instructions, curious to see what is going to happen.
The pairs of pictures capture a moment just before playing the song, as well as a moment when the person first hears and recognises it. The person on the right of the picture is the one picking the song, the one on the left - receiving.
